The "Welcome to East Durham" Sign Project is complete!
With financial assistance from Greene County, and physical assistance from the Town of Durham Highway Department, DCP has designed, purchased, and placed new "Welcome to East Durham" signs along Route 145 to replace those which had fallen into disrepair. The signs include an original "Celtic Knot" designed by East Durham's own folk artist Michael Lavery.
The Bandstand Project is complete!
Dedicated to Durham's veterans on September 23, 2007, the bandstand marks the first major, physical accomplishment of Durham Community Planners. "The bandstand was conceived and designed as a place for community gatherings and events," said DCP president Alanna McKiernan. The bandstand will be owned and scheduled by the Town of Durham, though DCP provided all of the funds for the project through fund-raising and the receipt of a $2,500 Main Street Revitalization Program grant from Greene County. DCP's Board voted to dedicate the bandstand to the Town's veterans, given that there is no true veteran's memorial in the Town.
The Bandstand is located prominently in front of the town's Little League field, next to the Irish American Heritage Museum, on the grounds of the Michael J. Quill Irish Cultural and Sports Centre in East Durham.
